Seeing God with New Eyes…

Let me tell you about my first experience with God.  First of all, let me say I didn’t trust God very much when I was young.  I felt, at that time that if loved anything, God took it away.  So, I know how it feels to struggle in trusting Him.

One day, I was putting on my contacts in the bathroom.  I was about fifteen.  One of them slipped out of my hand and fell on the floor.  I couldn’t find it.  As the moments passed, I started to panic.  My parents were going to kill me!  So I started to pray.  “I’ll go to church this Sunday if you help me find my contacts, God.”  I kept looking.  Nothing.  All of a sudden, I saw it.  But as I reached for it, I heard a voice.

“No, you won’t.”  The Voice said simply.

He was right, of course.  But the raw truth of the comment surprised me.  It wasn’t a judgemental voice either.  It was actually very matter-of-fact.

I did not go to church that Sunday or any other Sunday soon after.  But my quest to understand God, for myself, had begun.  It started as a simple exchange of truth.

That was thirty years ago.  And the truth between us has grown into a great trust.  God is my friend when no one else can be.  He is my Father, my King.  That is how I have come to understand Him.  Now, it’s YOUR turn… See God with New Eyes.  He’s there.  Whether you call him Jesus, Adonai, Buddha, or Alah.  Call upon Him/Her.  And then listen…You’ll see/hear God all around you if you know how to look and listen. Good luck!
