Rehearsal Days

Last night was our first blocking rehearsal for Steel Magnolias.  Blocking means the director decides where she wants us to stand and when to move when we are onstage.  With six actresses, it could get very crowded if we didn’t have certain spots (or marks) to stand in during the performance.  Most rehearsals last several hours.  Last night was no exception.  But it was fun. In the process of rehearsing, we start to become a sort of family.  Steel Magnolias is always an amazing experience because I end up having all these sisters.  Now, you can see why I’m so into the concept of “sisterhood.”  This is my fourth time doing this play. So I have LOTS of sisters out there.  Anyway, this is the poster the director made to publicize the production.  You’ll pick me out pretty easily. The production actually goes through the 28th.

Tonight, we are finalizing the blocking for Act I.  This scene from the movie gives you a brief glimpse into my character and how disagreeable she can be.  Remember, I’m playing Shirley MacClaine’s character.  If you don’t know who that is, she’s the lady with the dog…
