Prayereoke

Yes, you are reading that right!  Prayer E oke.  Kinda like karaoke but with prayer instead of kare.  Anyhoo, my Hebrew school girls are learning this prayer for our community Seder that is next Saturday night.  In Spring, Jews celebrate their leaving Egypt 3000 years ago by having a special meal called a Seder.  A Seder (pronounced say-der) means order.  The meal follows a very specific order.  There is lots of goofy singing and telling of how we were once slaves in Egypt, but now we are free. Kids are a very important part of the meal because they ask four important questions.  So my students are learning to perform them in Hebrew.  Now, you can practice right along with them.  I never did a Seder for you kids.  I thought you might think it was boring.  That would have broken my heart.  Maybe when you are all grown up?  Your big brother is so funny…he tells me he wants to know more about me, like as a person versus just being his “sister.”  Ok, well, here’s lesson 1: Your sister loves being Jewish!  The music, the Hebrew, the wisdom, the prayers.  I love being “a priestly people.”  We’ve been through slavery and come out a bunch of fighters!  We ask questions – constantly.  We are “the people of the book.”  And when we find the answers, we find, we have even more questions…
