Letters to Loved Ones from My Kitchen

Dearest Purity and Bea,

I’m getting the house cleaned up for the party.  I’ve decided to do one room each day so I can really give that room special attention.  There is nothing like an eminent party to make you get off your backside and get the place cleaned up.  So far, I’ve cleaned both bathrooms, my bedroom and the laundry room.  As today is Friday, I’ll tackle one of the biggest issues: the kitchen.  The guests will see it for sure, so it needs to be spotless!

I’ve posted the event on Facebook too and people are RSVPing.  That means they are telling me if they are coming or not.  One friend asked what color/theme my kitchen is.  Do you remember? The answer is: Light blue and Beatrix Potter.

Peter Rabbit

Beatrix Potter was an illustrator and writer who lived in England around the turn of the last century.  She was unmarried for quite a long time, so she spent her days painting and writing stories to children she loved.  I think she was an inspiration for this website.  Since she wrote stories to cheer up children she knew were sick, I figured that I could do a modern day version of the same. Her books became famous when a publisher became interested in her work.  She was very particular about how she wanted her books to look and she wanted them to be cheap enough that children could afford to buy them.  She was a very smart lady.  Eventually, she bought a house in the Lake District of Northern England.  She is one of my favorite authors/illustrators.

Remember when you were VERY little, we’d watch these videos?  We’d have one of our MANY slumber parties. You both spent many nights in my kitchen, making pizza, eating salad (with croutons and ranch dressing) and drinking hot tea (Purity). Bea learned how to sew in my kitchen. So, take a moment and enjoy a look into the World of Beatrix Potter.  I know you are big girls now.  But it’s summer and you have time to hunker down and remember the joy we felt snuggling together on the couch as we watched this…

I think Beatrix, herself, would love our website. I know I sure do.  And I love you both so much too.  You are my inspiration.

Sincerely,

Prudence Scattergoode XXOO
