Knowledge is Power: Clinical Depression

Do not, I repeat – do not assume that you are able to diagnose a mental illness.  This information is to further your knowledge of several mental health illnesses.  This information is being given to you so that you are sensitive and patient with those people (including perhaps even yourself) who are coping with these issues.  Mental illnesses must be diagnosed by a certified therapist.  However, knowledge is power so manage this power carefully and WISELY.  (See more below)

I have to confess I have suffered from depression and gone to therapy to deal with it.  It is not a state you can just “snap out of.”  It is a horrible state of being that makes you feel trapped.  You need help getting out of it.  If you find that you are always feeling sad and hopeless, please go talk to a school counselor.  Be honest with them about what is bothering you and let them help you.  Alcohol makes depression WORSE because alcohol is a depressant.  In other words, it makes you start thinking – too much about things you might be depressed about.  If anyone around you is drinking and seeming to be depressed, you’ll now understand why.  🙂
