Craft Idea: Fall Leaf Garland

As I posted earlier, my students at Hebrew school tonight were diligently working on their prayers.  But, at the halfway point, I decided to give them a break from all their studying and let them work on a leaf garland to decorate our sukkah with.  You might remember that a sukkah is a temporary dwelling that the Israelites made during harvest time to live in as they were bringing their crops in.  A modern sukkah might look like this…

Those teenagers in my class were SO happy to do this craft.  We also ate some of the leftover sweet kugel and listened to Israeli music.  We’ll be all ready for Succot when it gets here in a few weeks.

I’m sure you are both sick of school: reading, writing, etc… And I seem to remember Bea writing that she enjoyed learning to do new things.  So, here is a Fall crafty project just for you both.  You can use string or thread if that’s what you have.  If you don’t have a pin, use a safety pin or some scissors.  The leaves you might collect over a few days time.  In any case, try to relax for a few minutes and have some fun.  You deserve it! Enjoy! Thanks “Untidy Artist!”  You rock!
