Use All the Crayons in Your Box

Did you know that April is Poetry month?  Yeah, I’m going to give you bits of figurative language and poetry this month.  Not too much!  I don’t wanna turn you off.

I know you are limited in things you can do.  That CAN make you MORE creative, if you allow it.  I’ll give you an example: my posts.  I try to think of a theme to connect the two posts together somehow.  I don’t always manage it, but I try.  Today’s theme = color.  Sometimes, inspiration takes me in a different direction.  I allow that to happen.  I think I irritate people, sometimes, because I’m not very good at doing “the rules.”  Artistic types HATE rules.  We challenge them – constantly.  In fact, I feel like it’s part of my job as an artist/writer – to challenge people to think about things from a different perspective.  Did you ever climb the hills behind Grandma’s house?  Wow!  That’s a different point of view.  Everything looks so small from up there.  I sometimes get my students up on their desks so they can look down at me.  They realize that things are different if you just change your point of view.  So, get up on a desk or try climbing and big hill.  Your world WILL look different.  See all the different perspectives.  Use all the crayons in the box!
