Friday Night Dinner

I think you remember coming to my home on a Friday night.  I do like to light my candles and say the blessings.  It is believed by some people that whenever a candle is lit, God is among us.  I say the prayers over white (purity) candles, wine and bread.  Recently, I’ve started listening to the priestly blessing on Friday night.  It is a prayer one says over children that are special to the adult who is saying/singing the prayer.

Purity, if you look at the charm I gave you at Christmas… you’ll see the first few words of this prayer written on it.  May the Lord bless you and keep you both.  This is the prayer I’ll pray for you tonight and every Friday night.

I know the Hebrew sounds strange.  But Jesus would have understood this prayer as Hebrew was his native language.  I believe he would have liked this prayer as he is known to Christians as the “Prince of Peace.”  Hebrew like this is what I teach (along with Bible stories and crafts) during Sunday School.  My students use youtube videos like this to learn the prayers.  It starts out in Hebrew and then the English will come in so you understand what the prayer really means.
